Members announce candidacies for American Angus Association Board of Directors.
For a membership-run organization to function, there needs to be volunteers willing to serve. Six members have declared their candidacies for the American Angus Association Board of Directors.
Seeking a second term are Paul Bennett, Red House, Va.; John Dickinson, Auburn, Calif.; and Loran Wilson, Orleans, Ind.
Seeking a first term are Ron Hinrichsen, Westmoreland, Kan.; Mark Johnson, Orlando, Okla.; and Danny Poss, Scotia, Neb.
The elected delegates will choose five directors; a president and chairman of the Board; and a vice president and vice chairman of the Board during the Association’s 141st Annual Convention of Delegates, which will convene at 8 a.m. Central Standard Time (CST) Monday, Nov. 4, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Loran Wilson, a lifelong cattleman from Orleans, Ind., is seeking a second term on the American Angus Association’s Board of Directors.
Wilson applauds the American Angus Association for the effort it puts into drawing in new members. As he’s watching junior members and young cattlemen find a passion for the industry, he says he hopes he has done his part in creating an environment where black-hided cattle can help them succeed.
"I think bringing the right kind of cattle that the consumer wants, that the commercial cattlemen wants," he says of helping the Angus breed keep its position in the marketplace. "I mean, we've done a great job as a breed of answering the call. They want cattle that are going to marble. They want cattle that are going to put a steak on plate in a restaurant through our Certified Angus Beef program, for instance. But they want cattle that are going to meet the end demand. I think Angus has done a fantastic job of that. That's one of our main strengths."
