Michael Ray Conner, 74, of Otterbein, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024. Born on August 27, 1949, in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Charles & Dorothy "Dixie" (Franklin) Conner.
Mike, a 1967 graduate of Benton Central High School & 1971 graduate of Indiana Central College, excelled not only in academics but also as a basketball player under the guidance of Hall of Fame Coach Angus Nicoson.
Throughout his life, Mike dedicated himself to farming & raising champion Angus cattle. His passion for education led him to teach at Williamsport, Seeger, & LaVille High Schools. Mike's coaching legacy extended to various high schools, including Williamsport, Seeger, LaVille, Benton Central, & Lafayette Jefferson. Elected to the Warren County REMC Board of Directors in 1986, Mike served as the Board President since 2008. His commitment extended to the Wabash Valley Power Association, where he served on the Board of Directors since 2005, holding the position of President in 2013 & 2014. Additionally, Mike served as the President for Benton Community School Corporation Board of Directors. A devoted member of Connection Point Church & the American Angus Association, Mike's interests also included being an enthusiastic fan of Purdue Sports & the Chicago Cubs.
He is survived by his 3 children, Amy (Greg) Allison, Gary (Jessica) Conner, & Rachel (Mike) Dukes, along with 6 grandchildren, Nathan, Ryan, Carter, Connor, Calvin & Caleb, 3 siblings, Penny (Harry) Dunwoody, Jan Conner, & Chuck (Dru) Conner & many nieces & nephews.
Visitation to celebrate Mike's life will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 4-8 PM at Connection Point Church, 2541 Cumberland Ave., West Lafayette, IN. Additional visitation & a Funeral Celebration is scheduled for 10 AM & 11 AM respectively on Friday, January 19, with Pastor Jeff Carlson officiating. A private burial will follow at Pond Grove Cemetery.
